Note: This story takes place before the Doomsday project Robotnik turned in his giant chair. He smiled as he looked out at the dark city around him. This was not his command center; it was the remains of an abandoned SWAT-Bot factory. And while it wasn't the nicest place in Robotropolis, it was perfect for the experiment. "Engage." Snively hit the button, and the machine surged to life. Millions of volts churned through the machine. It lit up, and a soft voice intoned, "Roboticizer operational. Please insert innocent victim now." "It's a success, sir!" said Snively. Robotnik's huge body shook with happiness. "This is sure to spell doom for the Freedom Fighters!" "Um, sir," said Snively, scratching his head. "It's just a roboticizer. How can it spell doom for the Freedom Fighters?" "Let me show you," said Robotnik, grinning. "Bring in the first victim!" A door opened, and a SWAT-Bot walked in. "Yes, master?" "Sir, it's a robot!" said Snively. "You can't roboticize a robot!" "Just watch. Step into the entry chamber, please!" said Robotnik, smiling. The SWAT-Bot climbed through the portal, and Robotnik slammed shut the door. "Now roboticizing. Please enter design specifications." Robotnik stuck a CD into a small hole and watched it whirl. Snively tried to figure out what was going on. Suddenly, the entry hatch opened and the SWAT-Bot stepped out. Well, it was no longer a SWAT-Bot. "I... don't believe it...." Snively gasped. "You've been trying to build that 'bot for years!" "Yes, Snively. My new roboticizer can modify the SWAT-Bots. It also has a supercomputer which allows it to find the errors in my designs, and then it creates the weapon of destruction I thought of!" cackled Robotnik. The new 'bot stared coldly at Snively. "Um, hi," said Snively nervously. "You must be roboticized for the glory of the great Ivo Robotnik!" snarled the robot, beginning to move towards Snively. "Eek," Snively squeaked. "Stop!" shouted Robotnik. The robot stopped. "Snively is not to be roboticized." "Affirmative. Hello, Snively!" said the robot. Snively sighed with relief. "What is it's name?" Robotnik shrugged. "I haven't thought of a special name for this robot, but he's the first of the next generation of 'bots! And that generation will spell doom for the Freedom Fighters!" Snively nodded in agreement. "I'm impressed." "I am a Mecha-Warrior," said the robot. "And Sonic the Hedgehog is doomed!" Sonic the Hedgehog ran through the forest, bouncing off rocks, leaping over bushes, and just generally having fun. "Come, come on," he muttered. "You've got to be here somewhere." Suddenly, he heard a rustling of branches. Looking up, he spotted Tails above in the tree. "Ah-ha!" Sonic said, as he began to climb up the tree. Tails grinned, and leapt to a neighboring branch. Then Tails reached out and broke the branch he had been sitting on before, so Sonic could not pursue him. "You can't catch me!" said Tails, as he leapt from branch to branch, using his two tails to help himself balance. Suddenly, Sonic heard a rumbling noise. "Do you hear something?" asked Sonic. "No," said the fox. Sonic looked at the ground. You couldn't really hear it. It was more liked something you felt. Some things were funny that way. "Come down here, Ta--" Suddenly, a hand burst through the ground and a robot followed it. "Woah!" yelled Sonic, leaping out of the way as fire erupted from the 'bot. "Freeze, hedgehog!" yelled the robot. "You can't fight the Mecha-Warriors!" "Mecha-What!?" asked Sonic. "Mecha-Warriors," repeated the robot. "Let me introduce you to my friends..." Suddenly, the tree came to life, and flung Tails to the ground. A robot came from the tree, and it said, "I'm Mecha-Earth!" A gush of water sent Sonic sprawling to the ground. Another robot came! "I'm Mecha-Water!" "Not good. Way past not good," said Sonic, getting to his feet. "These robots are using nature against us, Tails!" "I know," said Tails. "Robotnik must have built them based on one of the ancient Greek theories!" "Greeks? What about them?" Sonic asked, leaping out of the way as more water threatened to engulf him. "And what theory?" "The Greeks believed that Mobius was made of four things," said Tails, dodging another attack from Mecha-Fire. "Earth, water, fire, and--" "Air!" finished Mecha-Air, as a gust of wind flung Tails and Sonic against a tree. "Tails!" gasped Sonic, attempting to fight the winds. "Go for help!" Sonic performed a Sonic Spin, burrowing into the ground. Distracted, the Mecha-Warriors peered into the hole. Seeing this, Tails flew away. Mecha-Water started to go after Tails, but Mecha-Fire stopped him. "Fire into the hole!" said Mecha-Fire. Mecha-Water activated his water bazooka, and Sonic heard the water rumbling behind him. Sonic spun faster, desperately attempting to escape being slammed into paste. He turned, heading up, hoping that his direction was right. "Unnh!" grunted Mecha-Fire, as Sonic slammed into him. Sonic ran for cover as the water covered Mecha-Fire. "Hey!" shouted Sonic. "Mecha-Water!" Mecha-Water stopped pouring water into the hole and turned. Sonic slammed his fist into the 'bot's face. Mecha-Water fell into the hole. Sonic grinned. "Two down!" he said. Another burst of flame. "One down, you mean!" said Mecha-Fire. "Robotnik built us so that we could resist on another's attacks!" Sonic frowned, and ran for cover. He hid behind a rock. Suddenly, the rock topple over, nearly crushing the hedgehog. "Hey!" cried Sonic, as a giant hand made out of rocks came from the ground. "No fair!" He wrenched himself free of the iron grip of Mecha-Earth, only to find that he couldn't breathe. "Where's... where's... Mecha-Air?" he gasped, swinging his fists wildly. "You can't see me, hedgehog!" said Mecha-Air. "While my Mecha-Warrior brothers required a robot body, I do not!" Sonic frowned, then swung again. He heard a grunt. "You mean you used a cloaking device!" Sonic snarled, kicking some dirt onto the Mecha-Warrior. The dirt came back at him, as spikes! Sonic leapt out of the way. Suddenly, the onslaught stopped. Sonic turned his head, wary of another attack. It came. All the 'bots attacked at once. Sonic leapt out of the way as Mecha-Earth and Mecha-Fire slammed into one another. They exploded in a burst of flames. "I thought you could stand each others attacks!" said Sonic, confused momentarily. A deep voice rumbled, "We can!" A chunk of molten rock nearly tore off Sonic's head. "We are Mecha-Volcano!" "Oh, great," Sonic groaned. He glanced at the new cone-shaped figure, then realized that the two Mecha-Warriors had merged into one robot. At least now he only had to dodge attacks coming from two different directions. Mecha-Air leapt at Sonic, who delivered a wicked left uppercut aimed at Mecha-Volcano. Mecha-Volcano dodged, but Sonic's fist connected with the Mecha-Air robot. Mecha-Air twirled wildly as his cloaking device was destroyed. He fell into the hole that Mecha-Water was floating about in. Another explosion, as water flew everywhere. "Oops," said Sonic. "Mecha-Typhoon is here!" shouted another voice. "You cannot defeat us!" Sonic gulped. Tails touched the ground and shouted to Antione, "Sonic is in trouble!" Antione frowned. He was on look-out duty, and hoped that he would not have to look out for anything. He began to sound the alarm. Sally was the first out of her hut. She had just awoken from an afternoon nap, and yawned. It was probably another false alarm. "What's up, Ant?" asked Rotor, scratching his head. "Zee hedgehog eez in zee trouble!" said Antione, frowning even more. "Yeah!" said Tails. "We got attacked by Robotnik's new robots, called Mecha-Warriors!" Sally didn't like the sound of that. "Tails, can you show us where the sugar-hog is?" asked Bunnie. Tails nodded nervously. "Unnh," grunted Sonic, as he felt himself being carried away by the winds. He grabbed onto a branch and held on as tightly as he could. "We are invincible!" laughed Mecha-Typhoon. "You cannot defeat us!" "Oh, put a sock in it, you Mecha-Menaces!" Sonic snarled angrily. He felt the branch began to snap. Once he was in the air, Mecha-Volcano could easily kill him. He held on desperately, and reached for another branch. It was close... so close.... A blast from Mecha-Volcano sent the branch flying away. Mecha-Volcano aimed carefully. Sonic had an idea. He turned on his anti-gravity soles, and due to the winds, flew every which way. Mecha-Typhoon, confused that he could not control the hedgehog's movements, stopped his attack for a moment to compute what was going on. Sonic took this opportunity to turn off his anti-gravity soles and slam into Mecha-Volcano below. Suddenly, a robot fist connected with Mecha-Typhoon, sending him sprawling. "Y'all know better than to mess with the sugar-hog, don't you?" asked Bunnie, grinning. Sally crouched low and tripped Mecha-Volcano, who went crashing to the ground once more. "Get them!" shouted Mecha-Volcano, leaping towards Tails. Tails took off into the air, narrowly avoiding the lava that flowed from Mecha-Volcano's cannon. He grinned as he got an idea. Mecha-Typhoon circled around the fox, searching for a good chance to attack. Mecha-Typhoon fired, and Tails leapt out of the way. The blast slammed into the Mecha-Volcano, who spluttered as he began to smoke. "Let's get out of here," snarled Mecha-Volcano, as he backed away from the Freedom Fighters. Tails grinned as the robots retreated for the relative safety of Robotropolis. "We did it!" laughed Bunnie. "I brought Aunt Sally and Aunt Bunnie here as soon as I could!" said Tails. Sonic grinned. "Way to go, little buddy!" he said, "Thanks, Sonic!" "What were those?" asked Sally, frowning. "Mecha-Warriors," said Sonic. "And I don't think we've seen the last of them, either." Robotnik smiled. "Everything is going according to plan." Snively nodded. "Now that some Mecha-Warriors have experience with battling Sonic, they will be able to give that data to the new ones you create. Brilliant, sir. Did you decide on a name for your new machine?" "I call it the Mechanizer," said Robotnik, grinning. He turned to face the newly-named roboticizer. "Initiate phase two!" The Mechanizer hummed to life, and prepared to unleash it's new weapon of destruction. To Be Continued....
